Weekend Poll Top Three: Newsies Seizes the Day as Your Favorite Musical About Working

This weekend, Americans celebrated Labor Day, a national holiday where we honor the contribution of the worker. To mark the occasion, we asked you to pick your favorite musical that takes place at work (offices, factories or flower shops). The results are in; see which shows came out on top.

1. Newsies - 23%
Disney’s Broadway.com Audience Choice Award-winning musical Newsies is based on the real-life newsboy strike of 1899. The show follows a group of poor newsboys who organize a strike to stick it to the fat-cat newspapermen taking advantage of the boys' labor.

2. Thoroughly Modern Millie - 13%
Set in 1922, the Tony-winning musical Thoroughly Modern Millie centers on Millie Dillmount, who leaves small-town life in Kansas for a shimmery adventure in New York City. Millie finds herself in the typing pool at Sincere Trust, where she hopes to land one of New York’s most eligible bachelors.

3. Kinky Boots - 11%
This year’s Tony Award-winning Best Musical and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner for Favorite New Musical, Kinky Boots is set at the Price and Son Shoe Factory in Northampton. The unlikely friendship between Charlie Price (Stark Sands) and Lola (Tony winner Billy Porter) helps inspire Charlie to turn his family’s failing men’s shoe factory into a thriving business that makes truly fabulous footwear.
